Calling Rainbows Alumni
One afternoon, on a particularly busy day at Rainbows Headquarters, a young woman, dressed professionally in her business suit, knocked on our door. She had seen our logo and wanted to know if this office was part of the organization who helped children whose parents were divorced. When she heard our affirmative answer, her eyes filled with tears and she said "I was in Rainbows in third grade - thank you for what you did for me - it meant so much!" This wonderful Rainbows Alumnus has now become our very special spokesperson who shares her story and Rainbows mission whenever we need her. "There couldn't be a more perfect name for this organization than Rainbows. It is an incredible support group for children across the world. My "group" brought safety, comfort, and sunshine during a dreary time in my life. I remember looking at the floor as it blurred while the tears flooded my eyes. I remember the quietness of the room while I spoke. And I remember how great it felt to wipe my eyes and have a peer put his hand on my shoulder. The sincerity would melt my heart every time. They truly listened to me! Although my family was filled with love to offer, I felt more satisfaction in the support given by my peers at the time. Knowing that I could release my anger and sadness in a neutral zone was what helped me stay calm at home. In turn, it allowed me to help my family with the pain in their own hearts. Rainbows not only helped me as a young child, but I still keep it in my heart today. My mentor taught me invaluable skills that have helped me get through tough times in my own life. But more importantly, those skills have shown me how to help others through listening. Rainbows is a group that affects you immediately and is passed on to loved ones for the rest of your life." Alison Wilbur Would you like to share your story or just get back in touch with us? We would love to hear from you!
