Children are bits of stardust blown from the hand of God. They come filled with joy, wonderment, laughter and a sense that the world was created just for them. I believe in them…the little ones, the chubby-cheeked ones and the freckled-faced ones. They have faith in their eyes, love in their touch and hope in their hearts.

Yet sadly, harsh events – a death, divorce or even a terrorist attack – invade children’s lives all too often. Suddenly, the world stands still for them. Their sense of security and safety is shaken. Tomorrows are uncertain. And the children feel scared. Personal tragedies dramatically affect our youth even though they seem to soldier on to school, to activities and to playtime.

Grieving children and teens are at high risk for diminished academic performance, drug abuse and even violence to themselves and others. Often they suffer in silence because the adults in their lives don’t know if they should reach out or even how to begin.

From Hurt...through Healing...to Hope, Rainbows continues to be a respite for those youth in our midst. Our mission is simple: to transform a loss from life-threatening to life-giving. Rainbows programs give kids a voice and a vehicle to sort through the long and sometimes treacherous grieving process.
